About
After Germany invaded France in 1940, it seized a staggering number of armored vehicles, including a reported 297 units of what was perhaps the best-regarded French tank at the time: the SOMUA S-35. The captured S-35 units were fitted with such modifications as new radio equipment, German camouflage, and in some cases, a commander’s cupola with a two-part hatch. Once modified, they were given the designation Pz.Kpfw. S35 739 (f) and used by the German Army for training and security in occupied territories.
