This famous tank was produced from January 1943 through April 1945, with a total of 5,796 vehicles built plus eight vehicles built on the F-series chassis. In September 1943, Japan purchased a Tiger tank and a Panther Ausf. D tank from Germany. By the time the tanks were ready in 1944, they could no longer ship them to Japan due to the Allied naval interdiction.
