About
Originally known as the IS-8, the T-10 entered service in 1953. Yet even as the last in a long line of Soviet heavy tanks, and despite the shift in Soviet military doctrine that led to the T-64, the T-10 received upgrades that kept it in service for decades. The T-10M variant was the final one produced, starting in 1958. Object 272 was the designation for the version of the T-10M developed at the Leningrad design bureau and approved for production by Josef Kotin; Object 272M was the name for a T-10M equipped with a 9M14 Malyutka missile launcher.
