Developed in the 1960s, the Marder 1 was an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) produced jointly by the firms Rheinstahl and MaK, with the German army taking possession of the first units in 1970. The Marder VTS 1 was an experimental test vehicle built in the late 1970s using a 105mm L7 gun and a Marder chassis as its base. The prototype vehicle has been on display at the Bundeswehr Museum of German Defense Technology.
