About
Introduced shortly after its predecessor, the M60, the M60A1 was manufactured from 1962 through 1980. Its longevity was extended beyond its production period, however, with the aid of the Reliability Improved Selected Equipment (RISE) program. Through RISE, the M60A1 received several incremental upgrades, including an improved AVDS-1790 engine, passive infrared sights, and a smaller searchlight. Updates through the RISE program were made starting in 1974.
