About
Although the T-72 eventually became much more widely produced than the T-64, attempts continued throughout the 1970s and 1980s to overcome the T-64’s design and production issues. The T-64B variant introduced a number of improvements over the T-64A. These included a reconfigured hull, streamlined turret armor, and a new version of the 125mm gun that was capable of firing AT-8/Songster anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM).
