About
Continuing to refine and develop its main battle tanks, the People’s Liberation Army introduced the Type 90-II to the public in 1991. This vehicle, which featured in the parades commemorating the 50th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, included a 125mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, a 1,200-hp diesel engine, and reactive armor panels. The tank was offered for export as the MBT 2000 starting in the late 1990s and licensed for production to Pakistan, which named it the Al-Khalid.
