About
In the mid-1980s, private manufacturer Cadillac Gage (now Textron Land & Marine) undertook a private venture to produce an inexpensive light tank for international markets, one that could be transported via air carrier. The result was the Stingray, a lightly armored vehicle that can hold a crew of four. The Stingray is fitted with a 105mm L7A3 rifled gun, gun stabilization, an Allison 8V-92TA turbocharged diesel engine providing 535 hp, and a torsion suspension. The Royal Thai Army brought the Stingray into service in 1988 and procured 106 units. To date, Thailand is the only nation operating this tank.
