About
Initially named the T-54E, the Ramses II was the result of a project started by Teledyne Continental Motors in 1984. Teledyne, a U.S. company, was tasked with modifying a T-54 for use by the Egyptian army. However, after the prototype was sent to Egypt in 1987, additional updates were made over the two decades that followed, until the tank was finally slated for production in 2004-2005. Upgrades incorporated into the Ramses II’s design included a 105mm gun and a new fire control system.
