About
In 1943, work started on the Entwicklung series or E-series, a proposed line of German tanks that would use standardized components and designs to make production simpler and more affordable. The E 50 was the medium tank design of the series, intended to weigh about 50 tons and serve as a replacement for Panther series tanks. Among the features that it would share with the E 75 were a lightweight, rear-positioned transmission, a 900-hp Maybach HL 234 engine, and an external suspension. The vehicle was still in development by the end of World War II.
